1-27-2011—SPECIAL EDITION--ED's SAFE & SUPPORTIVE SCHOOLS NEWS MENU--Vol. 6, No. 5, Kevin Jennings, Assistant Deputy Secretary—SAVE THE DATE FOR THE AUGUST OSDFS NATIONAL CONFERENCE SAVE THE DATE: U.S. ED’s OSDFS ANNOUNCES THE OSDFS NATIONAL CONFERENCE AUGUST 8-10, 2011 IN THE WASHINGTON, DC AREA The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS) would like to announce that it will be hosting its National Conference August 8-10, 2011 at the Gaylord National Resort in suburban Washington, D.C.. The theme of this year’s conference is “Making the Connection: Creating and Maintaining Conditions for Learning”, which will address issues related to: alcohol, drug and violence prevention; health, mental health, and physical education; special populations; emerging issues; and other areas concerning drug and violence prevention. The OSDFS National Conference will be a large-scale training and technical assistance event that will include: OSDFS grantees; education and prevention leaders; representatives of Federal agencies and national associations; public and private school administrators; school personnel; researchers and experts; as well as others in the field. As stated above, the event will be held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, which is located on the Potomac River, approximately 10 miles from downtown Washington, DC. Please mark this date on your calendar for attending the 2011 OSDFS National Conference (see attached save-the-date brochure). We recommend that you wait to make your reservations until we can establish a rooming block for this conference. Additional information about the conference will be forthcoming shortly, including registration information. Thank you.
