Please be aware that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) will be conducting the following two technical assistance webinars for ED grantees and sub-grantees in February 2011.
 
1) Date:  Monday, February 14, 2011
    Time: 2:00 - 3:30 PM (EASTERN)
    Topic of the Webinar:  ED Discretionary Grants Administration
 
Purpose & Audience: This webinar is designed to provide recipients of ED grants (including grant project personnel and business office staff) with a general overview of ED’s discretionary grants administration process.  With the significant increase of federal funds, recipients have a heightened responsibility to ensure their projects are managed in compliance with federal rules, regulatory requirements such as the Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Cost Principles, and sound business practices.

    Topic of the Webinar:  Internal Control
 
Purpose & Audience: This webinar will define and describe internal control and explain the role it plays in managing federal grant programs. Presenters will review the benefits of good internal controls, identify the parties involved and their roles and responsibilities, and describe the importance of controls in achieving successful grant outcomes. A review of the five standards of internal controls developed by the General Accountability Office (GAO) and a list of resources for further guidance and self-assessment will also be presented. The primary audience for this presentation will be all ED grantees and sub-grantees; however, other state and local education officials are encouraged and welcome to participate as well.  We hope you all can join us!
 
Registration:  Individual registration is required to participate in both of the webinars listed above.  Please register for either or both of these webinars on ed.gov at: http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/leg/recovery/rms-web-conferences.html.  Scroll-down to the “RMS Webinar Schedule & Registration” table and click on the title of the webinar to register. If you would like to participate in both of the webinars listed above, it is necessary to complete the registration information for both webinars so that you will receive the link to log-in for each webinar.  After you have registered, you will receive an automatic confirmation email from “Event Notification [[log in to unmask]]” containing the link to log-in for the webinar. You will also receive an automatic reminder email the day before the webinar.
 
Audio/Sound:  Audio for these webinars will be available by webcast over the Internet; therefore, please make sure the sound on your computer and your computer speakers is turned on, un-muted, and the volume is turned up for the webinars. Closed captioning will also be provided.
 
Questions:  During the webinars, participants will be able to submit questions by text on-line at any time (when you are logged into the webinar, you will see the “Ask a Question” text box).
 
Presentation Slides: Participants will be able to download a copy of the presentation slides during the webinars (when you are logged into the webinar, you will see the “Download Slides” button). 
 
Webinar Archive: These webinars will be recorded and available for later viewing in the on-line archive for three months after each live webinar occurs.  If you register for these webinars, then you will receive an automatic email notification when the webinar archives become available for on-demand viewing in ON24’s (our webinar vendor’s) on-line archive.  The email will contain the link to access the archive. The link to the archive will also be available on ed.gov at: http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/leg/recovery/rms-web-conferences.html.  In the archive, you can view the recorded webcast and you can download the slides by clicking the “Download Slides” button.  In addition, after the webinar transcript has been received and edited, it will also be available to view and download in the archive.
